Asda trials online shopping and Timpson dry cleaning tie-up

Asda is trialling a new service in London with Timpson Dry Cleaners where customers can organise their dry cleaning as a seamless part of their home shopping or click and collect shop.

The exclusive partnership means customers can pick the items they want dry cleaning while ordering their groceries on the Asda website or app. The items will be collected and placed in canvas bags when their home shopping is delivered or collected at one of Asda’s click and collect points. They will then be delivered clean with customers’ next Asda grocery order.

The minimum order is £25 and can be a mix of groceries and dry cleaning, or a full order of either dry cleaning or groceries.

Timpson already has a presence in a number of Asda stores where it operates services including dry cleaning, key cutting, shoe repairs, watch and mobile phone repairs.

Asda said the six month trial will help create four new roles at Timpson and will help determine the appetite for the service.

Commuters using Asda’s click and collect service at tube stations will also be able to use the service.

Mark Ibbotson, chief operations officer at Asda, said the company was starting the initiative in London “because it’s a business hub, where the majority of residents dry-clean their clothes every week and are likely to embrace the extra convenience this will give them”.

The launch follows research by Asda which shows that 60% of shoppers already link their weekly in-store shop with their dry cleaning run; and 40% are more likely to do dry cleaning due to the scarcity of washing and drying facilities where they live. London shoppers are also most likely to use a launderette than other areas of the country and said they wanted more options to make both their weekly shop and their cleaning more convenient for them.
