Hotel Chocolat grew its revenue by 16.2% year-on-year in the 13 weeks to 25 December as the chocolatier benefited from increased footfall and customers opting to buy higher-priced gift items.
Tesco's group like-for-like sales increased by 1.5% in its third quarter as UK like-for-like sales rose by 1.8%.
Sainsbury’s saw its like-for-like sales edge up 0.1% excluding fuel in its third quarter which covers the busy Christmas trading period. Like-for-like sales at its Argos chain rose by 4%.
The Morrisons supermarket chain has reported that like-for-like sales excluding fuel rose by 2.9% in the run-up to Christmas to mark its strongest festive performance in seven years.
New figures on the grocery market show that growth in the 12 weeks to 1 January 2017 was the fastest since June 2014 as supermarket sales increased by 1.8%.
Tesco has announced that it will be closing two of its UK distribution centres as it looks to simplify its operations. The move will result in the loss of 1,000 jobs although the retailer will be creating 500 jobs elsewhere in the network.
