Harrods sale to be opened by Cirque du Soleil

Harrods department store in Londons Knightsbridge will begin its world-famous winter sale on 26 December with a special performance by Cirque du Soleil.The sale, which is being is being held in association with Macmillan Cancer Support, marks the 25th anniversary of Harrods sale openings and is the first time that a performance act has declared the sale officially open.
The special performance comes in advance of Cirque du Soleil’s KOOZA tour, which starts in London on 5 January. The gymnastic, dance and musical performance will entertain queues of shoppers before the department store opens its doors to the public at 10am.
A number of families who have benefited from Macmillan’s care in supporting children and adults suffering from cancer have been invited to watch the performance. Macmillan Cancer Support is Harrods’ corporate charity for 2012 to 2014.
Katharine Witty, group director of corporate affairs at Harrods, said: “We are very excited that Cirque du Soleil is opening the Harrods Sale. There is only one Harrods, and only one Cirque du Soleil, so it is a fitting collaboration and one that we are sure will entertain the crowds on Boxing Day.”
Previous Harrods Sale acts have included Diana Ross, Tom Jones, Pierce Brosnan, Cher, Victoria Beckham, Eva Longoria and Florence Welch.
