Boots awards five-year contract extension to DHL Supply Chain
Boots UK has signed a major contract extension with DHL Supply Chain which will see the global logistics company handle the health and beauty retailerÂ’s national cross dock, chill and transport operations to its network of 2,500 stores until 2018.
Having worked with Boots for 15 years, DHL will now manage the national primary operation for the retailer at its main site in Beeston in Nottinghamshire, working closely with two chill distribution centres and fourteen cross dock operations.
The new contract will stimulate greater efficiency and collaborative initiatives with other retailers, such as shared retail high street deliveries and backhauling, and is expected to drive further cost efficiencies.
Simon Macdonald, distribution contract manager at Boots UK, said: “DHL has adopted a collaborative and value added approach with our business, and we are pleased to partner with them for the next stage of our operation as we work together to grow our business. Our focus is on ensuring that our customers can get the products they need to help them feel good, and an integrated and streamlined supply chain is key to making this a reality.”
Jon Wood, VP home and leisure at DHL Supply Chain, added: “We’re delighted to have secured this landmark contract with Boots UK which takes our 15 year partnership to a new level. Under the new agreement we’re looking forward to using our expertise to create efficiencies within the supply chain. Boots is an exciting and innovative brand, and we look forward to assisting them further as they continue to expand.”
