Lidl reports ‘record-breaking’ Christmas
Lidl has reported a “record-breaking” Christmas with nearly 51 million customers visiting its stores.
This was four million more than the same time last year as turnover exceeded £1.1 billion in the four-week period to Christmas Eve. The supermarket said Tuesday 23 December was its biggest day for footfall as shoppers sought out last minute items.
Lidl has also revealed that customers began their festive preparations earlier than ever this year with over 30 million mince pies sold from September onwards. Furthermore, shoppers purchased over 11,000 tonnes of seasonal produce in the week leading up to Christmas Eve to mark a 70% increase year-on-year. The supermarket also saw a 260% uplift in sales of its Comte de Senneval Champagne in its busiest week.
Meanwhile, Lidl’s refreshed Deluxe party food range delivered triple-digit growth after sales were boosted by popular products such as the Deluxe Tiramisu Panettone and the award-winning Deluxe Winter Wonderland Cheesecake.
