Ocado posts strong revenue growth

In its annual report and financial statements for an elongated 70 week period ending 6 April, Ocado Retail has reported strong revenue growth.

The extension shifts Ocado Retail’s financial year-end from November to April to align with M&S’s reporting calendar. However, there is no change in the economic interest of either shareholders as a result of the move.

In the 12 months to 6 April, the online grocer’s revenue climbed by 15.5%, largely driven by a 14.6% rise in active customers to 1.2 million.

It was also boosted by higher order volumes with the average basket size remaining stable and average selling prices rising well below inflation.

A joint venture between Ocado Group and Marks & Spencer, Ocado Retail said careful control of costs has helped it to deliver a 78.3% rise in adjusted EBITDA to £53.5 million. It also narrowed its pre-tax losses from £121.7 million to £60 million.

Ocado Retail also made significant progress in its Perfect Execution strategy and expects to make further progress in the current financial year.
