Ocado lines up new chief executive to succeed co-founder Tim Steiner

Ocado Group is preparing to appoint a successor to its chief executive Tim Steiner, according to reports.

Sky News has revealed that a technology industry source has told it that Ocado’s board has been sounding out Niklas Heuveldop, the chief executive of Ericsson’s Vonage, about taking over from Steiner, who co-founded Ocado in 2000 with Jonathan Faiman and Jason Gissing.

The news comes just a few weeks after an announcement that Asda was teaming up with Ocado to make major upgrades to its online grocery service.

Sky said on Sunday it was unclear how imminent an announcement was about a successor to Steiner, and whether Heuveldop was still in the running for the role.

The search for the new chief executive is understood to be led by Adam Warby who was appointed as Ocado chair October 2024.

In addition to its online grocery business Ocado Retail, Ocado operates robotic warehouses for other supermarkets around the world. In December 2025, the company announced that mutual exclusivity had ended with retailers in most markets where its technology was live.

In February, it confirmed plans to cut approximately 1,000 jobs, with around two thirds in the UK, as it looked to reduce costs by around £150 million.

In the year to 30 November, Ocado’s group revenue increased by 12% to £1.36 billion while adjusted EBITDA rose to £178 million from £117.million in the prior year.
