Marks & Spencer extends check-out free experience to more stores

Marks & Spencer has expanded its Mobile Pay Go technology to more stores as it look to offer more shoppers a check-out free experience.

The service has now been extended to 50 stores, 49 of which are in London.

The rollout follows a successful trial across a selection of stores in the capital. M&S said the six original pilot stores in Edgware Road, Bankside, Waterside Paddington, West Hampstead, Canary Wharf and Stratford Westfield have seen a Mobile Pay Go transaction every three seconds over the lunchtime shopping period.

New stores to benefit from the technology have been selected based on their footfall at peak times. To date, the technology has been very popular with busy lunchtime shoppers.

Sacha Berendji, director of retail, operations and property at M&S, said: “M&S is changing to become a digital first retailer with industry-leading store operations – and Mobile Pay Go is a really exciting part of that.

“Today’s rollout means more of our customers will be able to benefit from this popular technology and enjoy a seamless shopping experience – which we know is especially important at lunchtime.”
