Matalan strengthens leadership team with five senior hires

Fashion and homewares retailer Matalan has appointed five new leaders to support its ongoing business transformation.

David Seeby has has joined the retailer as director of online with responsibility for driving forward its ecommerce offering. He previously worked with Boden where he led the digital trading, user experience and digital product teams as director of product management and experience. Prior to that, he worked with Country Road Group, House of Fraser, M&S and Dixons Retail.

John O’Driscoll has become director of strategy and will be oversee the delivery of the leadership team’s strategic plans to build a “stronger, more modern” Matalan. He has joined the retailer from the Co-op where his most recent position was director of strategic planning and solutions.

Meanwhile, Toni Salters-Warner has taken up the role of head of womenswear buying. With over 25 years’ retail experience, she has joined Matalan from Sainsbury’s where her last role was head of womenswear buying. Previously, she worked with George at Asda in roles spanning the womenswear, menswear and kidswear departments.

In a further a move, Jo Murphy has been appointed head of design after working for over eight years at Primark, most recently as head of design. Prior to that, she spent five years at M&S, and also worked with Next, Arcadia and Reebok.

A final appointment has seen Matalan hire Charlotte Dewhurst as  director of marketing. Due to join the retailer next month from FTSE-100 business RS Group, she has also worked with ClearScore, Les Mills International, Argos and Morrisons.
