International Women’s Day: 63% of Trouva boutiques are women-owned

As part of International Women’s Day, Trouva has revealed that 63% of the boutiques on its platform are women-owned.

To celebrate this, the online marketplace is shining the spotlight on its more unique boutique owners, which range from mother-daughter businesses and those supporting sustainable practices, to founders fighting for a fair living wage.

Dimple Patel, chief operating officer of Trouva, said: “Trouva celebrates every single woman that makes up its rich community, from the savvy and inspiring boutique owners keeping high streets thriving to the creative small makers crafting unique products our customers love. With over 63% of the boutiques in Trouva’s community being women-owned, it’s fair to say we champion women every day of the year.”

Just some of the women operating boutiques on Trouva include Jennifer Georgeson and Aqsa Khan who are the owners of London-based social-impact boutique So Just Shop. The business offers a range of ethically sourced homeware and lifestyle accessories that are all handcrafted by female artisans around the world. Many of the cooperatives it works with provide women with literacy and numeracy lessons, creches and education for their children and extended family, as well as a legal and safe form of employment that pays them a fair living wage.

Meanwhile Forest is headed up by Fran Bailey (pictured) and her daughters Alice and Maddie. The south London-based boutique offers an abundance of greenery as well as sustainable homeware and lifestyle products, including skincare, home fragrance and soft furnishings. Fran and Alice also use their space to educate and inspire their community with workshops on plant care, flower arranging, macrame and aromatherapy candle making,

Another female founder on Trouva is Blomma Beauty owner Karen MacDonald who opened her small batch and sustainable skincare boutique in King’s Cross in 2020. Macdonald identified a gap in the market for a welcoming and relaxing environment in which customers could try out better-for-the-planet products and take away insights they could trust. In addition to stocking brands with strong credentials, Blomma Beauty also offers in-store facials, consultations and events.
