Tesco names Andrew Yaxley as CEO of Ireland and Northern Ireland

Tesco has appointed Andrew Yaxley as chief executive of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

He has worked at Tesco for nearly 25 years in a range of senior roles, most recently serving as chief executive of the company’s Booker wholesale business since 2020. Prior to that, he spent eleven years at Mars, where his last role was UK grocery director for pet care and food.

Yaxley previously served as Tesco’s chief executive of Ireland from 2015 to 2018, where he led the business through a period of growth and transformation.

He succeeds Geoff Byrne, who will now become chief executive of Booker. Byrne has worked at Tesco since 2008 and became chief executive of Tesco Ireland and Northern Ireland in May 2025.

Both appointments will take effect from 31 August, with Yaxley and Byrne continuing to serve on the Tesco Group Executive Committee.
