Tesco targets health-conscious shoppers with new nutrient-packed meal range

Tesco has launched a new range of meals designed to deliver a meaningful nutritional profile.

Created with nutritionists and chefs, the Plentifuel meals will include protein, fibre and at least one essential micronutrient such as iron, zinc, calcium, magnesium and potassium.

Tesco said it made the move to appeal to people aiming to eat smaller portions that are nutrient dense, including people managing their weight. It said the range may also appeal to people with smaller appetites, whether due to lifestyle changes or age.

The range will initially launch with five 300g chilled meals, priced at £3 each and will be included in the Any 3 for £8 Clubcard Prices promotion. The meals are Katsu Chicken, Pesto Chicken Pasta, Beef & Lentil Bolognese, Chicken & Chorizo Paella and Three Bean Chilli.

Tesco said all five meals are nutrient dense, with a range of essential micronutrients including iron, zinc, calcium, magnesium and potassium, and contain fewer than 400 calories within a 300g portion. They are high in protein, provide a source of fibre and count as one of five-a-day, using ingredients including vegetables and wholegrains.

With these products first in the range, Tesco is planning to expand Plentifuel further throughout 2027.

Natasha Maynard, Tesco nutritionist, said: “We know that more customers are thinking carefully about what they get from the food they eat. With Plentifuel, we wanted to make that choice easier. We’ve created meals that are full of flavour while providing protein and fibre in a really convenient format.

“These first meals are just the start for Plentifuel. We’re really excited to introduce the range to customers and then build on it with even more products next year, all with the same focus on helping people make every mouthful count.”
