Tesco to hire 28,000 temporary staff for Christmas

Tesco is to take on more than 28,000 temporary staff to help during its busy Christmas period.

The supermarket said the roles will mainly be in its Superstores and Extra stores, serving customers or picking orders for grocery home delivery.

Shifts will be available across the day, including early mornings and evenings, so staff can choose hours that suit them. Tesco is also offering a small number of picking roles at its distribution centres around the country.

The supermarket said temporary colleagues may have the chance to move into permanent jobs after Christmas, where positions become available.

Ela Golab, Tesco group people services director, said: “We’re excited to be recruiting festive colleagues to help make it a season to remember for our customers.

“We are looking for people who can bring warmth, enthusiasm and a helpful service to every shopping trip.

“We’re also keen to hear from applicants who may want to stay with us after Christmas and begin building a career at Tesco.

“No day is ever the same, and festive colleagues will be able to feel the impact they make on every shift, as they send customers home with a smile. What’s more, no experience is necessary – just the right attitude.”

Earlier this week, M&S announced that it was to recruit 11,000 seasonal colleagues in the run-up to Christmas.

Meanwhile, Sainsbury’s and Argos confirmed that they had launched a nationwide recruitment drive to fill 17,500 temporary roles across the UK.
