Former UK Tesco head becomes president of Foot Locker International
Dick’s Sporting Goods has announced that it has appointed former UK Tesco head Matthew Barnes as president of Foot Locker International.
Due to take up his role on 3 December, Barnes will oversee the Foot Locker stores, ecommerce and digital businesses across Europe, Asia and Australia, as well as its licensed store presence in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
Reporting to Dick’s executive chairman Ed Stack, who heads up Foot Locker, Barnes will join a management team that includes former Nike executive Ann Freeman, who leads Foot Locker North America.
With nearly three decades of leadership experience across the UK, Europe, the US, China and Australia, Barnes was UK chief executive of Tesco until July 2025. Prior to that, he worked with Aldi for 26 years where his positions included chief executive of the UK and Ireland and group chief executive and international board member.
