Boohoo starts production at first ever manufacturing facility

Boohoo has begun production at its first ever clothing manufacturing facility.

The 23,000 square foot factory in Thurmaston Lane in Leicester will create up to 180 jobs and will be capable of making up to 25,000 garments per week.

Boohoo group chief executive John Lyttle said: “The Thurmaston Lane site reinforces our commitment to UK manufacturing and our longstanding partnership with Leicester.

“It is more than just a factory, it’s a hub of learning and collaboration as it gives our own teams the chance to work on-site and an opportunity to see a working factory first-hand.”

The move follows an independent review by Alison Levitt QC that found a number of failings in the retailer’s Leicester supply chain and recommended improvements to its corporate governance, compliance and monitoring processes. This was conducted in 2020 after allegations of low pay and unsafe conditions at suppliers’ factories emerged during the Covid-19 pandemic.
