French tycoons behind Decathlon face anger over Russian expansion plans

The French tycoons behind the Decathlon sporting goods brand have reportedly been accused of profiting from the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

According to The Telegraph, Leroy Merlin, which is owned by the Mulliez family, is considering expanding in Russia as it looks to fill the gap in the country left by other Western retailers shutting their operations.

In a letter seen by the newspaper, Leroy Merlin’s Russian arm said to suppliers: “Since the disappearance of certain companies, we are open to your proposals on the increase in supply and your assortment of products.

“In the next three to four months we plan to fully replace imported goods with those produced in Russia.”

Bosses also said that sales had significantly increased since the invasion.
