The Nu Company secures first UK grocery listing at Sainsbury’s

German-based food start-up The Nu Company is expanding into the UK this month with its first grocery listing at Sainsbury’s for its Nucao bars.

100% organic, vegan and natural chocolate, the bars are wrapped in plastic-free packaging and created with sustainable and eco-friendly principles at the centre of production.

The bars have landed in Sainsbury’s health food aisle this month following a successful in-store trial in 2021.

Founded in 2016 by three industrial engineering students, the bars are all made with cocoa from a Peruvian farmers cooperative, where The Nu Company pays 30% more than the global average price for cocoa beans.

Christian Fenner, co-founder and chief marketing officer of The Nu Company, said: “This launch into grocery in the UK is an unbelievably exciting step for us as a relatively young start-up. For us it’s always been about becoming part of a much bigger goal, to make every choice at the checkout a vote for a healthier and greener world, and with this launch in Sainsbury’s we’re looking forward to taking our mission one step further.”

Available across 300 Sainsbury’s stores nationwide, the bars have a recommended retail price of £2.25.
