Pets at Home announces chief financial officer transition

Pets at Home has appointed Sarah Pollard as its new chief financial officer.

She will succeed Mike Iddon who has advised the board of his intention to retire in the spring of 2025.

Pets at Home said the appointment follows a comprehensive search that began some months ago as part of its succession planning process. It will issue an announcement on Pollard’s start date “in due course”.

Most recently, Pollard has been serving as chief financial officer at PZ Cussons where she has worked since 2021. Earlier in her career, she was finance director at Birds Eye and subsequently deputy chief financial officer of its parent company, Nomad Foods.  She has also held finance leadership roles at Unilever, Tesco, Pepsico and Diageo.

Ian Burke, executive chair of Pets at Home, said: “On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Mike for the contribution he has made since joining the business in 2016.

“During his tenure, consumer revenues have more than doubled to £2 billion and we have returned over £500 million to shareholders, with Mike leading the business with calmness and a relentless focus on high standards. Mike will leave next year with our best wishes for a happy and well-deserved retirement.”

Commenting on Pollard’s appointment, he added: “I am delighted to welcome Sarah to Pets and she brings with her extensive experience gained in highly competitive consumer sectors.

“The board and I look forward to working alongside her, to deliver value for all our stakeholders – customers, colleagues and shareholders – as we continue to deliver our well established omnichannel, consumer centric strategy.”

The appointment follows the news earlier this month that Pets at Home chief executive Lyssa McGowan had left the business and Burke assuming the role of executive chair until the search for her successor is complete.
