Primark names new chief financial officer

Primark has appointed Lucy Slinger as its new chief financial officer as it looks ahead to becoming a standalone entity following a planned demerger from parent company Associated British Foods.

Slinger was previously deputy chief financial officer at IKEA franchisee Ingka Group, which operates across 32 countries.

Before that, she spent more than two decades at Shell in a range of senior finance leadership roles, including financial reporting, corporate finance, and group planning and appraisal. She was also chief financial officer of its global aviation business.

In her new position, Slinger will play a key role in supporting Primark’s long-term growth strategy as the business continues to expand internationally.

The appointment follows the hiring of Filip Ekvall as chief commercial officer earlier this year.

In April, Primark’s owner Associated British Foods announced that it would be pushing ahead with a demerger of the retailer from its food business following a review of its group structure.

Eoin Tonge, chief executive of Primark, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Lucy to Primark at such an important moment for the business. She brings deep financial expertise from large global organisations, alongside an impressive track record in disciplined investment and operational performance.

“As we accelerate our growth strategy and prepare for a standalone future, her leadership will be invaluable. I look forward to working closely with her as we shape the next phase of Primark’s growth.”

Slinger said: “I am excited to be joining Primark at such a pivotal point in its journey. I look forward to
working with Eoin and colleagues across the business as Primark continues to grow internationally and invest for the future.”
