Tesco to create 400 jobs in Ireland
Tesco Ireland is to create 400 new jobs over the next 12 months as it invests €40 million in the opening of ten new stores.
The move means the retailer will have 193 shops in the country and 13,500 permanent employees.
Subscribe to TRB100 of the new jobs will be created at Tesco’s new Fermoy store in Co Cork which will open later this month.
Tesco Ireland chief executive Geoff Byrne said the investment underscores the retailer’s commitment to maintaining its position as a leading employer and retailer in Ireland.
He added: “Our colleagues are at the heart of our business, and we look forward to welcoming new team members this year and recognising them with market-leading reward and benefits.”
New stores will also be launched in Dublin, Galway, Louth and Meath. The shops will include a mix of supermarkets and smaller Tesco convenience stores.
Last month, Tesco reported that sales in the Republic of Ireland increased by 5.5% in its first quarter. Sales at the wider Tesco business climbed by 4.6% on a like for-like basis to £16.4 billion in the 13 week period to 24 May.
