Planet Organic attracts major investment from Inverleith

Organic food retailer Planet Organic has sold a majority stake in its business to Scottish private equity firm Inverleith.

Understood to be worth around £15 million, the deal will see Planet Organic’s founder Renee Elliott reduce her holding in the business.

Inverleith has said that it will look to double Planet Organic’s number of stores over the next five years. Planet Organic was founded in 1995 and has seven stores across London.

Inverleith chairman Ben Thomson said: “This is an interesting time of change for the high street with shoppers wanting more community-based shopping. Consumers are looking for an experience when they shop and for real knowledge about the products offered.

“This is the sort of shopping that is the future of the high street and we are pleased to helping Planet organic to open in other locations around London.”

In addition to food, Planet Organic’s stores sell a range of health and beauty items and some stores feature cafes.
