Co-op appoints chief growth officer

Co-op has appointed a new growth director as part of a series of changes to drive growth.

Wais Shaifta has agreed to join the group’s leadership team and operating board as chief growth officer with responsibility for strategy and the delivery of the future growth agenda.

Shaifta joined the Co-op board in February as an independent non-executive director and is stepping down from that position to take up his new role. He is a former chief executive of Push Doctor and has also previously held senior positions at Treatwell and Just Eat.

Meanwhile, Jerome Saint-Marc, managing director for B2B and growth, has decided to step down  to pursue opportunities outside of Co-op. As a result of this decision, Katie Secretan, managing director for Co-op wholesale, will report directly to Co-op chief executive Shirine Khoury-Haq and will join the operating board.

In a further move, Co-op has announced that Matt Hood will lead a new group commercial and logistics division in a new role of chief commercial and logistics officer. Co-op said the division will be a cornerstone of its strategy to grow revenue and profitability across multiple channels.

This has involved Hood moving from his previous role of Co-op food managing director for which Co-op has commenced a search for his successor. In the meantime, the remaining food leadership team will report directly to Khoury-Haq.
