Chapel Down hires chief marketing officer

Wine maker and retailer Chapel Down Group has appointed Liam Newton as chief marketing officer.

Newton previously worked as vice president of marketing at Carlsberg and has also held senior roles at Bacardi Brown-Forman Brands, AB InBev and Nestlé Rowntree.

Drinks brands he has managed include Carlsberg, San Miguel, Bacardi, Grey Goose, Bombay Sapphire and Jack Daniels.

Newton has regularly appeared in Campaign magazine’s ‘Marketing Power 100’ and Marketing Week’s ‘Top 100 Most Effective Marketers’.

In his new role, he will lead the next phase of development of the Chapel Down brand and will be responsible for all aspects of marketing. His remit will also include the brand’s direct-to-consumer ecommerce business and its visitor experience in Tenterden in Kent.

Andrew Carter, chief executive of Chapel Down, said: “I am delighted that Liam will be joining Chapel Down. He is a first-class marketer with a great track record in building premium drink brands and leading the development of high-performance marketing teams. Building Chapel Down into an iconic British brand is at the heart of our company strategy so I’m excited that Liam will be joining our business at this stage of our development.”
