Paul Smith opens Madison Avenue flagship in New York
The Paul Smith fashion brand has opened a flagship store on New York’s Madison Avenue.
Inspired by founder Paul Smith’s home in London’s Holland Park, the two-storey shop has been designed to feel like a London townhouse in the heart of Manhattan.
Subscribe to TRBThe Upper East Side opening comes nearly four decades after the brand opened its first New York shop on Fifth Avenue.
The store offers the brand’s tailoring alongside wardrobe staples, shoes, socks and accessories. Upstairs, the Jet Lag Room is a dedicated space for tailoring, occasion wear and made to measure services.
The exterior combines a traditional stucco façade with a handcrafted mosaic by French artist Alexandra Carron, featuring a needle and thread motif that nods to the art of tailoring.
Inside, Smith’s humour is reflected in details including a mirror made from dominoes, sculptural bird boxes, cast iron banana shaped door handles, and a working speaking tube linking the Jet Lag Room to the first floor cash desk. Behind the tills is the brand’s signature gallery wall of paintings, photographs and prints, all hand-picked by Smith.
Danny Power, Paul Smith president of North America, said: “Paul Smith has proudly been part of the fabric of New York for nearly forty years, a much loved brand by those in the know.
“Our new flagship on Madison Avenue is an incredibly exciting next step as we embark on a new chapter for our business in North America.
“The opening signals a moment of real focus and energy as we sharpen what we stand for. The shop is a commitment to our ambitious plans for growth in North America.”
