N Brown hires Sarah Welsh as retail chief executive

N Brown has strengthened its management team with the appointment of  Sarah Welsh to the newly created role of retail chief executive.

She will join the business on 30 March and will be responsible for all aspects of product including buying, merchandising, design, fit, trading, sourcing and partnerships as she helps the business to deliver profitable growth.

With 25 years of retail and brand experience, she will join N Brown from Oasis where she has worked for the last 18 years. Her most recent role at the fashion retailer was managing director. She began her career on the shop floor at Laura Ashley before moving through a series of senior roles at River Island and Miss Selfridge.

At N Brown she will report directly to group chief executive Steve Johnson. The company’s retail businesses include Simply Be, Jacamo and JD Williams.

Johnson said: “Sarah joins N Brown at an exciting time as we continue with our strategy to deliver sustainable, profitable growth.  She brings a wealth of relevant experience, not least in building strong and empowered teams to develop brand propositions. Her experience will be important in further improving and developing our product offering to continue making our customers look and feel amazing.”
