Matalan announces two new senior leadership appointments

Fashion and homewares retailer Matalan has appointed Phil Hackney as chief supply chain operations officer and Katherine Davis as chief retail officer.

The roles have been created to support Matalan’s ongoing transformation programme.

Due to take up his position on 3 July, Hackney (pictured) will be responsible for delivering “executional excellence” across Matalan’s logistics and supply chain. He previously worked as chief operating officer at The Very Group and prior to that held executive roles at Pets at Home and Boots.

Meanwhile Davis will join the business on 10 July and will focus on executing Matalan’s retail strategy. Most recently, she was global retail director at Paperchase, and previously worked with Pets at Home, Asda, and George at Asda. Her career has also included an 18 year stint at Marks & Spencer.

Both Davis and Hackney will report to Matalan chief executive Jo Whitfield.

Whitfield said: “I am thrilled to welcome Phil and Katherine as two great new additions to the senior executive team as we continue to move at pace through our transformation. We will be able to benefit from their deep industry experience as they support Matalan’s executional excellence in their respective focus areas.”

Matalan has created the new roles following Mike Jeans’ decision to step down as operations director to pursue a broader business advisory career. He will leave the business in mid-July after 20 years with the company.

Whitfield added: “I would like to extend huge thanks to Mike for his instrumental role in shaping Matalan throughout his impressive tenure with the business. He has proved an inspiration and support to colleagues across the store estate and I am sure he will be very successful with the next phase of his career.”
