ASOS appoints chief commercial officer

Online fashion retailer ASOS has appointed José Antonio Ramos Calamonte to the newly created role of chief commercial officer.  

He will join the company from Portuguese fashion business Salsa Jeans where he he has been chief executive for almost two years. Prior to that, he led the commercial strategy for brands such as Esprit, Carrefour Spain and Inditex.   

Due to begin his new role on 4 January, he will be responsible for leading the company’s product and trading strategy including design, sourcing, garment technology, buying and merchandising, global trading, studios and creative. This will also cover product, category and range strategy, pricing and margin, own-label product innovation and brand partnerships, which means he will lead a team of more than 1,000 people.

Nick Beighton, chief executive  of ASOS, said: “I’m pleased to welcome José Antonio to our  expanding executive team. His extensive commercial experience overseeing a wide range of disciplines will be an indispensable asset for us, and we’re excited to have him on board as we continue the next stage of our journey.”

Last month, ASOS announced that its revenues climbed by 19% to £3.26 billion in the year to 31 August as pre-tax profit rose by more than 300% to £142.1 million.
