Frasers Group hires former Nike executive to lead sports division

Sports Direct owner Frasers Group has appointed former Nike executive Ger Wright to head up its sports division.

The move is a part of a management team reshuffle by the group’s new chief executive Michael Murray, who took on his role in May after spending three years as head of elevation at the group.

Wright worked for over 15 years with Nike, most recently as general manager merchandising marketplace for the EMEA region.

Commenting on the appointment, Murray said: “Nike is a strategic partner for us, and Ger’s appointment is a real testament to our elevation strategy.”

Frasers has also made a series of promotions within its senior team.

House of Fraser managing director David Epstein has now become managing director of premium and luxury, while Beckie Stanion, Sports Direct chief marketing officer, will step up to the same role for the group.

Murry added: “I’m now five weeks into my role as chief executive, and as part of my commitment, I’ll be bringing the right people on board, to lead Frasers Group into the future and build on our strong foundations.”
