Wickes targets 300 UK stores after strong profit performance

Wickes has reported a rise in full year revenue and doubling of profit as it announced an acceleration in investment in future growth.

In the 52 weeks to 27 December, total revenue increased by 5.9% to £1.6 billion as adjusted pre-tax profit rose by 14.4% to reach £49.9 million.

Meanwhile, statutory pre-tax profit climbed to £48.7 million from £23.2 million in the prior year.

Wickes reported strong retail volume growth, with revenue up 6.5% following 21 range reviews spanning doors, hardware, panelling, power tools, plumbing, shelving, storage, and screws and fixings. Its kitchen and bathroom design and installation offering also performed well, delivering 4.4% revenue growth.

David Wood, chief executive of Wickes, said: “This has been another year of strong progress against our strategy. We’ve achieved volume-driven growth across all three areas of the business, as the strength of our proposition continues to resonate with customers.

“In retail, we achieved record market share with particularly strong sales across timber, tiling and  flooring and paint, while TradePro continues to perform strongly, growing to 643,000 active members.

“We’re also pleased with the performance of our design and installation business, which has now recorded five consecutive quarters of ordered sales growth.”

Wickes said it has experienced continued volume growth across indoor projects and design and installation in the first 11 weeks of its new financial year, despite outdoor product demand being impacted by wet weather.

In 2026, Wickes plans to open four to five new stores and refit or refresh 15 to 20 sites, before accelerating from 2028 with 10+ new store openings and 20+ refits and refreshes per year.

Wood added: “Given the strength of investment returns from our proven store refit and new store rollout strategy, we have today announced the decision to accelerate our investment for future growth.

“This takes our ambition to reach 300 stores nationwide – creating over 2,000 new jobs as we bring Wickes’ distinctive offer to new locations up and down the UK.”
