Kingfisher Q3 sales uplift driven by UK and Poland

Kingfisher, the owner of B&Q and Screwfix, has seen its third quarter like-for-like sales climb by 5.8% in constancy currency in the UK and Ireland as it continues to implement its transformation plan.

In the three months to 31 October, like-for-like sales at B&Q rose by 3.5% with sales at Screwfix climbing by 12.7% on the same basis.

However, total sales at B&Q UK & Ireland dropped by 3.6% reflecting the retailer’s store closure programme which is now nearly complete.

Screwfix’s total sales climbed by 23.1% in the period driven by the retailer’s digital capability, new and extended ranges and 11 new outlets.

Véronique Laury, Kingfisher chief executive, said: “Q3 trading conditions have followed a similar trend to the first half. We have delivered another solid sales performance overall, trading in line with expectations.”

Sales in France, where Kingfisher operates the Castorama and Brico Dépôt chains, fell by 3.6% on a like-for-like basis.

Meanwhile, like-for-like sales in Poland rose by 6.7% as Kingfisher benefited from a supportive market for home and DIY and the popularity of new ranges.

Laury added: “We continue to make good progress on our strategic milestones in the first year of our five year ONE Kingfisher transformation, and remain on track. In addition, we are gearing up for next year when the level of transformation activity will significantly increase. We remain confident in our ability to deliver our ambitious plan, based on always putting customer needs first, supported by the expertise and energy of our colleagues.”
