Lush posts best ever trading month in December

Lush experienced its best trading month of all time in December with sales in the UK and Ireland exceeding expectations to reach £40.5 million.

Sales were up 13.1% on December 2021 and 11% above pre-pandemic levels three years ago. The retailer’s stores put in a particularly strong performance with growth of 18% on last year.

One of the most popular products was Lush’s Snow Fairy gift set which achieved sales of over 150,000.

Kat Hannible, Lush UK and Ireland retail director, said: “We were confident in a return to a more traditional Christmas trading pattern this year, and increased our stock levels and seasonal recruitment to provide the best possible experience for our customers.

“I’m happy to say that our optimistic preparation paid off, and we’re delighted to report these results. I cannot over emphasise the credit that is due to our shop and digital fulfilment staff, who have overcome the challenges of this year to deliver a fantastic Christmas. We are also grateful to our manufacturing teams in Dorset making fresh products around the clock as the sales kept coming.”

Lush launched a series of investments in retail and new brand collaborations in the run-up to Christmas. This included spending £7.4 million in growing its store estate in the UK and Europe through new shops, relocations and refits. It also introduced a new spa experience and embarked on licensing collaborations with One Piece, Lazy Oaf and Netflix’s Stranger Things.

In November, the retailer opened its biggest store to date in Dundrum Town Centre in Ireland.
