Bodycare appoints Charles Denton as CEO to lead UK expansion
Bodycare has appointed Charles Denton as chief executive and chairman, and announced a ramping up of its UK expansion.
Founded in Lancashire in the 1970s, the company was acquired by an investor group led by Denton after it fell into administration last autumn and was forced to close all 147 stores. It is now in the process of making a return to the high street.
While leading the strategic direction of the business, Denton will be responsible for driving the nationwide rollout of Bodycare’s new generation of Studio Stores and expanding the business internationally through franchise partnerships.
Subscribe to TRBBodycare said he will also work to strengthen hyper-local community engagement, develop partnerships with leading consumer brands, and oversee the development of Bodycare’s proprietary AI operating platform.
With a career spanning more than three decades, he is a former chief executive of The Body Shop, Erno Laszlo and Molton Brown. At Bodycare, he will work alongside the company’s managing director, David Stern, and the rest of the Bodycare leadership team.
Denton said: “Bodycare represents a remarkable opportunity to redefine what value retail can become. Today’s customer is smarter than ever. They want exceptional value, but they also expect discovery, inspiration and experiences that make shopping enjoyable again.
“Our ambition is to build a business around that smart customer. We’re creating stores that are destinations, places where people can discover exciting products, learn from experts, engage with their local community and enjoy an experience that goes far beyond simply buying health and beauty products.
“Retail is changing rapidly, and while technology will undoubtedly play an increasingly important role, we firmly believe the future belongs to businesses that successfully combine innovation with genuine human connection.”
Stern said: “Charles shares our belief that Bodycare can become something far bigger than a traditional retailer. His experience of building brands, transforming businesses and creating long-term strategic value makes him the ideal person to help us lead Bodycare into its next chapter.”
