Sainsbury’s launches Henry Holland collection to support LGBTQIA+ communities

Customers shopping in Sainsbury’s stores or online will be able to buy British Designer, Henry Holland’s x Bags of Ethics exclusive collection from now until September.

The retailer will be donating £25,000 from the new Pride collection to akt, a charity that supports homeless LGBTQIA+ young people experiencing homelessness or living in a hostile environment with access to employment, education and training.

The sustainable collection includes a reusable coffee cup, water bottle and tote bag, all made from 100% sustainable cotton and recycled materials.

Henry Holland is synonymous with vibrant colours and slogan designs, and he has brought this signature style to the Bags of Ethics collection. The bold range includes a reusable coffee cup, water bottle and tote bag, featuring all the Pride colours emblazoned with the motto ‘proud to be me’.

With prices starting from £5, Henry Holland’s x Bags of Ethics products are made from 100% sustainable cotton and all items can reused, with no single use plastic elements in the product nor packaging. The reusable shopping bags are foldable and printed using non-toxic inks and produced with a 80%+ female workforce in Bags of Ethics’ factory.

The retailer partnered with akt in 2020 and with an additional £25,000 donation from the collection this year, Sainsbury’s and akt will be able to help young people between 18-25 years old to stay in a safe environment and celebrate their identities.

Richard Riley, Head of Diversity and Inclusion, at Sainsbury’s said: “Sainsbury’s is committed to being a truly inclusive retailer and we recognise the importance of supporting our LGBTQ+ colleagues and customers. Creating a culture that promotes and takes pride in diversity is important to us and we are excited to bring Henry Holland’s Bags of Ethics collection to our stores, offering bright and sustainable products that can be used every day to all of our customers. We’re proud to support akt and hope this donation will help them in their incredible work to find safe homes and provide mentorship and training to young people in the LGBTQ+ community.”

Henry Holland, British Designer said: “The concept behind my design is to empower and encourage allyship with the LGBTQIA+ community. Pride is a time for the queer community to come together and continue to advocate for equal rights for all – but also a time for the wider community to show their support and allyship. This sentiment is so integral to the amazing work of akt who work tirelessly to support young people who haven’t always felt that love and support from those closest to them and are facing or experiencing homelessness or living in a hostile environment. The Bags of Ethics reusable collection of bags, coffee cup, and bottle, is made to last. Buy it once, use it for good. Thank you for supporting them with your purchase.”
