Sainsbury’s to shed 300 jobs in major restructure
A restructure at Sainsbury’s could result in around 300 jobs being lost across its supermarket and Argos businesses.
Most of the job cuts would come from its data and technology team as the company reshuffles the unit into two dedicated teams for Sainsbury’s and one for Argos.
Subscribe to TRBA Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “As we gear up for year three of our next level plan, we’re strengthening our focus behind Sainsbury’s and Argos.
“By maximising the power of our data and technology, we’re freeing up our teams to concentrate on what matters most – great food, brilliant service and fantastic value for our customers.”
The company is also making changes to its store leadership by creating four new regional roles for its convenience stores. In addition, it is establishing a separate leadership board for Argos and overhauling the retailer’s delivery model.
In January, Sainsbury’s announced that it had won grocery market share for the sixth consecutive Christmas period as it grew its sales by 4.9% in its third quarter.
News of the job losses came as Ocado announced that it is to cut around 1,000 jobs, mainly across its data and technology teams.
