Sainsbury’s in discussions with Tu Clothing team ahead of potential restructure

Sainsbury’s is in early stage discussions with staff working in its Tu Clothing team regarding operational changes that could lead to job cuts.

According to Drapers, the process to consider the changes includes a review of buying and merchandising functions, which could see the creation of new roles and some positions being removed. A final decision on the restructuring is expected in the coming weeks.

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “As we move into the final year of our Next Level Strategy, we are looking at the shape of our clothing team to ensure our focus is on what matters most to our customers.

“While we will regrettably lose some roles as part of this process, we expect to see many created as well.”

A key part of Sainsbury’s non-food offering, clothing sales rose by 4.8% in the year to 28 February after a strong spring/summer performance was offset by unseasonal second half weather.

In February, Sainsbury’s announced a restructure that could result in around 300 jobs being lost across its supermarket and Argos businesses. The retailer said roles impacted included some in its data and technology teams.
