Pret A Manger expands in Germany with first shops in downtown Berlin

Pret A Manger is to expand further into Germany with the opening of five new coffee shops in downtown Berlin.

Due to open by the end of 2023, the shops will be launched together with Pret’s new franchise partner PM Nord.

Two shops will open in Berlin city centre at the start of November, with one on Friedrichstrasse and another in the Sony Center at The Playce at Potsdamer Platz. These will be followed by openings in Leipziger Platz, The Playce at Potsdamer Platz and Steglitzer Schloßstraße. Pret already operates shops at Berlin’s transport hubs and also has stores in Frankfurt and Dusseldorf.

To enable the expansion in Berlin, PM Nord has acquired a number of CARAS stores which will be converted into new Pret shops.

Stephane Klein, managing director, Pret Europe, said: “Following the success of our shops in German transport hubs, launching the Pret brand in downtown Berlin is a major milestone in our European expansion.

“We’ve long heard that locals would love to have a Pret in the city centre, so we’re delighted to be working with new franchise partner PM Nord GmbH to bring our freshly-made food and organic coffee to more people and add something new to Berlin’s vibrant food-to-go scene.”

Pret is planning to double the size of its business by 2026 as it continues to expand into new countries and regions both in Europe and across the world. The company has opened new shops in Luxembourg, Italy, and Ireland during the past year, and will soon be launching in Portugal and Spain.
