Naked Wines sees surge in demand for Christmas collections

Naked Wines has said an unprecedented surge in traffic following the launch of its annual Deluxe Christmas Collection for pre-order caused its website to go down for around an hour last week.

The online wine retailer said over 40,000 Christmas cases were pre-ordered within 24 hours of the launch, with three cases being sold every second during a one hour period.

Naked Wines said the cases are a sell out every year but this year demand has been higher than expected.

James Crawford, Naked Wines UK managing director, said: “With more people drinking at home than ever, we knew Christmas 2020 was going to be a big one, and planned for more than double the site traffic year on year.

“Despite this, the rate at which Angels flocked to the site was significantly above our forecasts. Thankfully our tech gurus got things up and running quickly and over 40,000 customers were able to order our Christmas deal in the space of 24 hours.”
