Just Eat launches trial of delivery robots in UK

Just Eat has launched a small scale robotic delivery trial in time for Valentine’s Day.

With the robots kitted out in Just Eat orange, deliveries will be made by Delivers.AI in Bristol and RIVR robots in Milton Keynes as part of a trial with ten independent restaurant brands.

Just Eat said the trial is particularly fitting for Bristol as the South West region saw the biggest uptick in orders on Valentine’s Day last year.

The move follows the initial ground robotics pilot in Switzerland where nearly 1,000 deliveries have been completed. In addition, Just Eat is continuing to test drone delivery in Ireland.

Mert Öztekin, chief technology officer at Just Eat said: “We’re always innovating to improve the delivery experience for our customers. To trial ground robotics we’ve teamed up with two expert organisations to ensure that we’re learning and working with the very best.

“For those in Bristol and Milton Keynes who love tech – what better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than a robot delivery from your favourite local.”

Last month, Just Eat announced that it had introduced a new AI voice assistant on iOS and Android to enable customers to place orders by speaking instead of navigating menus.
