Iceland Foods strikes deal with Lotte Mart for South Korea expansion

Iceland Foods has teamed up with a supermarket chain in South Korea to operate concessions in the country.

From this summer, shoppers at 45 Lotte Mart stores will be able to choose from a selection of Iceland products through branded in-store areas.

The initial launch will include more than 30 products across several categories, including chips, ready meals, seafood, desserts and ice creams. Further products may be introduced as part of a future expansion.

Iceland said the new partnership will strengthen its growing presence across Asia. This follows the retailer’s entry into China last year through a partnership with BTG We Link, including the opening of its first Asia Pacific retail concept, Iceland Lab, in Beijing.

Alongside existing partnerships in Thailand, Cambodia and Brunei, the agreement with Lotte Mart further expands Iceland’s international footprint across the region.

Iceland products have previously been available in South Korea through retailer Homeplus so the partnership with Lotte Mart marks the brand’s return to the market.

Justin Addison, international and partnerships director at Iceland Foods, said: “We’re really excited to be launching Iceland products with Lotte Mart and re-introducing our range to South Korean shoppers.

“Lotte Mart has a strong reputation for bringing quality products to customers, making them an ideal partner for us. Through the new Iceland Concessions, shoppers will be able to discover some of our most popular frozen foods and experience the convenience, variety and great value that have helped make Iceland a household name in the UK.

“This launch has been made possible through a fantastic partnership between both teams. South Korea is an exciting market with a strong appetite for high-quality international food products, and we’re looking forward to building on this launch and continuing to grow alongside Lotte Mart.”
