Greggs and Primark open flagship Tasty by Greggs café

Greggs and Primark have teamed up to open a third Tasty by Greggs café as they continue to expand the concept.

Situated on the second floor of Primark’s Northumberland Street store in Newcastle, the café follows the success of the first two Tasty by Greggs café openings in Birmingham and London’s Oxford Street East last year.

Tony Rowson, property director at Greggs, said: “Following the success of our first two ‘Tasty by Greggs’ cafes in Birmingham and London last year, the opening of our third café in Newcastle, the home of Greggs, marks another milestone moment for us as we continue to focus our efforts on new on-the-go locations where people work, shop and travel.”

Newcastle is regarded as the home of Greggs due to the retailer being founded in the city’s Gosforth area in 1939. The opening of Tasty by Greggs means the company now has 13 outlets in Newcastle city centre.

Visitors can expect to see a fun and unmistakably ‘Tasty by Greggs’ style interior with doughnut inspired seating booths, a Sausage Roll swing, booths for dining under an iconic Tyne Bridge structure, an interactive Greggs phone box and vibrant décor.

The 114 seat café offers a menu of Greggs classics including sausage rolls, bakes, stotties, sweet treats and Fairtrade freshly ground coffee. It will also offer sharing size boxes of pizzas and iced lattes.

Tim Kelly, director of new business development at Primark, added: “We’re thrilled with the success of our partnership with Greggs to date – ranging from three sell-out collections to now three brilliant cafes, we’re constantly on the lookout for new ways to inspire and excite customers. We’re excited to be extending our partnership to new locations including Newcastle so more customers can visit two of the best brands on the British high street in one go.”
