Asda to increase hourly pay to £13.10 for store staff

Asda is to increase pay rates for retail staff to £13.10 per hour from 5 July.

The news means that all 110,000 hourly‑paid colleagues in Asda’s supermarkets and Asda Express convenience stores will receive a 4% above‑inflation pay rise in two stages. Rates will increase to £12.71 in April and £13.10 in July.

Staff working in stores inside the M25 will see their pay rise to £13.93 per hour in April and £14.35 per hour from July.

The award represents an investment of £80 million by Asda and brings its total spend on retail pay increases to £575 million since it was acquired by TDR Capital and the Issa brothers in 2021. During this period hourly rates have risen by around 40%.

James Goodman, Asda’s chief people officer, said: “Our store‑based colleagues are at the core of our business and the role they play serving customers is central to our Formula for Growth turnaround plan.

“I’m pleased we’ve been able to give them an above‑inflation pay award and invest in this way.  I’d also like to thank them for their continued hard work and commitment to making Asda better every day.”

Last week, Tesco announced that it was investing over £200 million in pay with an increase to £13.28 an hour for staff working in stores and online fulfilment centres.
