Asda reshuffles leadership team as Liz Evans departs

Asda has reshuffled its leadership team as it confirmed that Liz Evans, chief commercial officer for non-food and George managing director, has decided to leave the business.

Having joined the supermarket in January 2022, she was previously chief executive of FatFace and prior to that held the same position at Oasis and Warehouse. She will leave Asda at the end of June.

Allan Leighton, Asda executive chairman, said: “Liz has been a fabulous steward during her time with us.

“Firstly, leading the George business through a period of continued growth and then taking on the leadership of our retail teams.

“Leading both, she has made a lasting impact – with our colleagues and the business more widely – and set in place the foundation for success moving forwards. I am immensely grateful for her leadership and wish her all the very best for the future.”

With Evans’ departure, Asda has decided to reshape executive responsibilities including giving David Lepley an expanded role of chief operating officer, adding retail operations to his existing supply chain operations responsibilities.

Meanwhile, Rachel Eyre has become chief customer and digital officer as Asda looks to bring all online and digital businesses together alongside her current remit including George.com, Asda Money and Mobile.

Asda said it has appointed a new permanent chief executive for the George business, but said it would make an announcement in due course.

In the meantime, the George clothing team will report to chief people officer James Goodman while the George general merchandise team will report to Darren Blackhurst.

The news comes as accounts filed at Companies House have shown that Asda moved further into the red last year with a pre-tax loss of £989 million.
