Aldi launches UK-wide Sports Fund offering grants up to £3,000

Aldi is launching a new UK-wide Aldi Sports Fund programme, giving grassroots sports clubs the chance to apply for grants of up to £3,000 to help cover equipment, kit, coaching and facility hire.

The move forms part of the supermarket’s drive to support sport at every level. As the Official Supermarket Partner of Team GB and Paralympics GB, Aldi also supports Team GB and Paralympics GB athletes with monthly vouchers for their food shop.

The launch follows the success of Aldi’s Sports Fund in Scotland, which has supported hundreds of local clubs over the past 10 years.

Grant values and application windows will vary by location, with full details published on the Aldi Sports Fund webpage.

Julie Ashfield, chief commercial officer at Aldi, explained: “We know how much local sports clubs mean to the communities they serve. They’re run by passionate volunteers and give people of all ages the chance to get active, try something new and be part of a team.

“For the past 10 years, our Scottish Sports Fund has helped hundreds of clubs, and by bringing this activity together under one UK-wide Aldi Sports Fund, we’re making it easier for even more grassroots organisations to see what support is available in their local area across England and Wales.

“Our partnership with Team GB and Paralympics GB is all about inspiring people to get involved in sport. Through the Aldi Sports Fund, we’re helping more clubs continue the fantastic work they do every day.”

Through the Aldi Sports Fund, select Gold grant recipients will also have the opportunity to meet a Team GB or Paralympics GB athlete and hear first-hand about their journey in sport.

Tim Ellerton, chief commercial officer at Team GB and Jenny Seymour, commercial director at Paralympics GB, said: “Aldi is a fantastic partner to Team GB and Paralympics GB, and we are delighted to see them extend their commitment to supporting sport at every level across the country.

“From local communities to the world stage, they understand the extraordinary impact sport can have. It will be great to see athletes getting involved and helping to make that impact felt in communities nationwide.”
