M&S named official tailor for England football teams

Marks & Spencer has today announced that it is the Official Tailor to the England Senior Men’s and Women’s Football Teams.

Spanning three years, the partnership builds on the retailer’s long-standing relationship with the Football Association, dating back to 2007 when M&S became official suit supplier to the England men’s senior team.

The in-house designed collections will be worn by England teams with a 67-piece menswear collection that customers will be able to buy on M&S.com and select stores from August 18, ahead of the next tournament schedule.

It includes a performance collection, which includes suits with a natural stretch and water-repellent “Stormwear” finish, a modern wool collection which includes contemporary suits cut in premium pure wool, and the evening wear collection, which includes tailor-made wool and velvet suits, as well as satin stretch shirts.

Items in the collection sell for between £12.50 and £150 for a pure wool pea coat with a limited edition Football Association badge.

As the pandemic accelerates formal wear easing, M&S said the 2022 collection “reflects a new era in apparel” and reflects how the retailer has reshaped its offering for today’s shopper.

The womenswear collection will debut next year, featuring an edition of coordinated suits and elegant pieces.

Wes Taylor, Director of Men’s Fashion at M&S, said: “After meeting the England men’s team and discussing their needs, it became apparent almost immediately that they wanted a collection that offered style and versatility, allowing for individual preferences but still appearing as a cohesive look.

“And most importantly, they wanted something that better reflected who they really are. So rather than the structured suit, “one-size-fits-all” shirt and tie we’re used to seeing, we created a more complete collection of smart -separates that emphasizes comfort, performance, and durability at its heart.”

Maddy Evans, Womenswear Director at M&S, said: “We are incredibly delighted and honoured to be dressing the talented and inspiring England senior women’s team on their journey to next year’s summer tournament. We look forward to unveiling a collection that feels contemporary and unexpected, with pieces that challenge the traditional idea of ”power dressing. Watch this space.”
