Matalan hires Henrik Nordvall as new chief executive
Matalan has appointed Henrik Nordvall as its new chief executive.
Due to join the business in February 2026, Nordvall has spent the last 17 years with H&M where he held a variety of senior roles before becoming chief executive of the UK and Ireland in 2022.
The news means that Karl-Heinz Holland, who was appointed executive chair in October 2024, will return to his position as chair of the Matalan board in February. In addition, it follows a number of senior hires by the retailer to boost its expertise in buying and design.
Holland said: “I am absolutely delighted that Henrik is joining Matalan at this exciting stage of our transformation.

“I have no doubt that he will add huge value across all areas of the business, complementing the experienced Executive and leadership team.”
Nordvall’s appointment follows a strong first-half performance from Matalan when EBITDA climbed by 69% to £34 million in the six months to 30 August 2025. Matalan said the growth was driven by margin expansion and a tight cost control.
The retailer is continuing to implement its store refresh programme, with upgraded stores now outperforming the rest of the estate by 14%.
Nordvall said: “I am thrilled to join Matalan as the new CEO from February 2026. Matalan is on a very exciting journey on delivering everyday style, quality and value to their customers and I am excited to start contributing to the business.
“Together with the executive team, the board and the whole Matalan team, I look forward to taking the company into the future.”
