John Lewis launches biggest multi-brand menswear rental platform on the high street

The John Lewis department store has launched the biggest range of menswear brands available to rent on the high street.

The move follows the success of the retailer’s womenswear rental platform which was launched in 2022.

Brands include the likes of Hugo Boss, Charles Tyrwhitt. John Lewis, Kin and Hay Life, with rental prices starting from £40 for a four-day rental of a dinner jacket and trousers.

John Lewis commercial director Kathleen Mitchell said: “We’re unique on the high street to be able to offer the widest range of multiple brands to rent from everyday suits to more premium brands and styles.

“A perfect solution for a last minute dinner party or day at the races. This is just the beginning of menswear rental and we’re really excited to see it grow.”

John Lewis expects strong demand for the new offering as searches for ‘Mens Rental’ have been consistently in the top 30 search terms on JL.com for the past 18 months.

Its womenswear rental service has seen a 52% increase in members and a 40% uplift of rentals over the last year and has expanded into maternity wear, ski wear and wedding dresses to meet customer demand.

John Lewis Fashion Rental will continue to be powered by the Hurr rental and resale fashion marketplace.

Hurr chief executive Victoria Prew said: “We are really excited to collaborate with John Lewis Fashion Rental, one of our long-standing partners, to extend its rental offering to men.

“As a category, menswear is very much undiscovered in rental and this is a unique opportunity for us with incredible potential to shift consumer behaviour towards smarter fashion choices.”
