Barbie-Mania hits UK retail

The Barbie Movie is coming to London today, Wednesday July 12.

The highly anticipated release will premiere in London at 6pm tonight and the event will be live streamed by The Warner Bros UK on their TikTok page.

The Barbie feature film, which is directed by Greta Gerwig and stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, is easily the most anticipated movie of the year

From fast fashion to food to department stores, it feels like almost every retailer is jumping on the pink bandwagon. Multiple apparel retailers have released collections celebrating the new movie’s release — including Gap, Aldo, Boohoo, Primark, Skinnydip and Dr PawPaw.

Boohoo have revealed an inclusive collection with Barbie-branded hoodies, tees, and comfy separates in sizes 0-24.

Cult beauty brand NYX Cosmetics has introduced a nine-piece Barbie collection that leans into the technicolor brightness of it all.

Primark have launched a mega-movie range with an extensive collection features pieces ranging from womenswear, accessories, nightwear and menswear to home and beauty. In true Barbie fashion, pink is the running theme in the line with pops of neon colour and subtle glam accents.

Sarah Jackson, Director of Licensing, Primark said: “We are delighted to partner with Mattel on the release of our Barbie The Movie collection. Barbiecore is spreading worldwide, and we are thrilled to offer our customers licensed fashion and accessories across womenswear, menswear, kidswear and lifestyle, including the iconic Venice Beach athletic wear which became an internet sensation so everyone can unleash their inner Barbie and Ken this summer. This collection marks our first collaboration with Mattel, who we have worked strategically with on the design and creation of the fantastic range, tied to the upcoming Warner Bros. movie. Barbie is sure to be the style moment of the summer and we have no doubt our collection will be a success.”

Crocs also launch a collaboration with a shoe collection coated in Barbiecore pink; the Mega Crush Clog, which has already sold out online, features a 2.9-inch platform sole with a glittery midsole design and eight built-in Barbie movie charms with the classic “B” logo. The new collection also includes the Barbie Cozzzy Sandal, lined with plush pink fuzz; the Barbie Crush Clog in black; and a Barbiecore version of Crocs’ classic clog.

British beauty brand Dr PawPaw have been collaborating with the make-up artists since inception and have been used on major TV and film productions including Netflix hits Bridgerton and Wednesday. The brand has products included in the kits of the makeup team for the new Barbie production.

A spokesperson for Dr PawPaw said “We were delighted to have been requested by the team on set of the new hit Barbie who called in our Original Balm and out tinted Hot Pink, Peach Pink and Ultimate Red balms to use on the cast.”
