John Lewis extends same-day delivery service to more cities

John Lewis is extending its same-day delivery service to more cities following an initial launch in London last August.

The service is being offered to customers in Manchester, Leeds and Birmingham who will now be able to order an item online by 10am for delivery between 7pm and 10pm the same evening. The cost per delivery will be £9.95.

All deliveries to customers are made by fully electric vehicles operated by carrier company Stuart.

Eva Cullen, head of customer fulfilment operations at John Lewis, said: “We always want to improve the service for our customers and there’s been a real appetite for same-day deliveries. With customers using it for purchases of everything from bed sheets to toothbrushes – we are confident this service could have even more potential in the future.”

John Lewis is also extending its click-and-collect network with the launch of 72 new outlets in Dobbies Garden Centres. This takes the total number of collection points to 5,700.

At the same time, the retailer has made improvements to its Deliver to Yodel Store service to make it free making it free over £30.

It is also restarting deliveries of larger items, such as furniture and electrical appliances, in Northern Ireland after a two-year break.
