Mountain Warehouse launches online marketplace
Outdoor retailer Mountain Warehouse has launched its own online marketplace as it looks to give customers access to a wider choice of brands.
Called Mountain Warehouse Marketplace, the platform will aim to act as a one-stop-shop for all outdoor clothing and equipment.
Subscribe to TRBThe news follows the growth of the retailer’s own brand portfolio which has included the acquisition of coastal lifestyle brand Animal by Mountain Warehouse in 2021 and the launch of athleisure brand Active People in April 2022.
Mountain Warehouse said sellers joining the platform will have access to its 1.7 million active online customers and 600,000 weekly visitors. Brands signed up to date include the likes of Nike, Slazenger, Donda Cycling, Dotty Dungarees and Caterbury.
The move will enable a major extension of Mountain Warehouse’s kidswear offering, as well as sports and activewear. The marketplace will also include a broader range of outdoor living and garden products, in addition to an extended pets offering.
Sellers are expected to handle customer returns, tracking, pricing and second-line customer care, but Mountain Warehouse will offer access to its customer base and support with onboarding, data and customer insights, marketing, first-line customer care and the processing of orders.
Mountain Warehouse chief digital officer Ed Whatmore said: “Our mission at Mountain Warehouse is to help everyone to enjoy the great outdoors. One way to do this is to keep expanding and evolving the range of products we’re able to offer our customers, especially online. The Marketplace is a fantastic way for us to do this and we’re excited about the potential it brings. It’s great to see some market leaders joining us online and new product areas will help deepen and complement our existing customer proposition.”
