Mountain Warehouse posts record revenue

Mountain Warehouse has reported a 16.4% increase in revenue to a record of almost £450 million in the year to 23 February 2025.

Pre-tax profit was also up, climbing to £33 million from £26.2 million in the prior year.

Total store revenue rose by 19.1% as the outdoor retailer opened 65 new sites including 17 relocations. New branches included 27 in the UK in places like Plymouth, Peterborough and Putney, as well as five Australian stores in Brisbane and Melbourne, and three Canadian stores in Banff, Winnipeg and Saskatoon. Since the year end, Mountain Warehouse has opened a landmark 400th store, with the launch of site in in Auckland, New Zealand.

Last September, the group acquired US outdoors brand Eastern Mountain Sports, including its six stores, as part of plans to grow in the US.

Mountain Warehouse is continuing its expansion with up to 50 additional branches and relocations planned in FY26, with more sites in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Poland and Canada.

In the UK, the recent strategy has been to open larger stores, including in edge-of-town retail parks, some of which are in former Top Shop and Wilko stores.

Having acquired the Animal lifestyle brand three years ago, the group has opened seven stand-lone Animal shops in English seaside towns such as Brighton, Padstow, Falmouth, Newquay, and Cromer.

Mark Neale, Mountain Warehouse founder and chief executive, said: “I’m proud of the team for delivering another set of record results, despite the challenging retail environment.

“The strong pipeline of new, larger stores that we have both in the UK and international markets means that we should be knocking on the door of £500 million revenue in the current year.”
